What A Difference A Day Makes! The Storms Subsided, Spirits Are Up & The Fish Are Biting!

blog story: What A Difference A Day Makes! The Storms Subsided, Spirits Are Up & The Fish Are Biting!
Yesterdays storm, eased overnight and we awoke this morning with bright sunshine, warm temperatures, and easing winds. Conditions which looked perfect for fishing! With hurricane Paula still looking like its going to hit us Friday/Saturday, I thought we would get out on the keys today and have a proper good session, the plan to fish hard during the day, then head in for a bite to eat and tea time, then back out again for an evening session.

Pretty much as soon as we hit the first mark we were into fish, nothing massive but a steady stream of sharks up to around 50lb, this was the story for most of the day session. These toothy critters of all different varietys, keeping us busy for the most of the day, when for some reason other fish seemed less inclined to feed.

It was back in for a bite to eat, replenish the bait stocks, fill up the drink bottles and back out within the hour! We tried a few different marks and it was a similar story as it had been for much of the day, small sharks keeping the rods bent. Paul did however manage a Tarpon of around 50lb, a Moray Eel, which he described as the ugliest fish he had ever caught! Right on last knockings he did manage a nice Nurse Shark which just tipped the 200lb mark. A cracking end to a busy day on the water!

Fingers crossed the weather stays like this tomorrow, and fingers and toes crossed that Hurricane Paula blows itself out before creating too much destruction.

Cheers Dave
