Accommodating only 6 rods per week the Toon Ken lodge is ideal for a smaller group or families who enjoy unrivalled comfort and excellence of dining.
For Toon Ken has an enviable reputation as having some of the most intimate stretches of the Rio Grande, in fact it has 20 kms of fishing on the Rio Grande with private access to both banks. The newly completed lodge opened its doors for the '04 season. Ideally sited on a south bluff over the Río Grande, boarded windows allow anglers, relaxing with a fine Argentine red wine in hand, to watch Sea Trout roll and show as they make their way upriver. During the day it is only a short stroll or car-ride from the lodge to cast at the sea-runs you saw rolling from the lodge windows the night before. On returning from the river a delicious glass of wine and relaxing soak in a Jacuzzi or dry sauna soothe the day away.
River Grande is known to be one of the finest fly fishing destinations in the world, famous for the enormous size of its Sea Trout. The biggest of all are found in the Rio Grande, descendants from brown trout eggs introduced into the river over 70 years ago. This river flows for 90 miles through the vast open steppe of Tierra del Fuego before meeting the South Atlantic Ocean at the port of Rio Grande. It is unquestionably the premier Sea Trout River in the world with anglers having a realistic opportunity of landing a fish in excess of 20lb. The season lasts from December to April with the runs of fish being sustained throughout. Unlike salmon, the fish will enter the river during all these months in equal numbers dependent primarily upon local conditions. Fishing is from both banks and the river offers easy wading with fine gravel banks.
