The final day today and me and Kevin were slow to start due to a broken outboard motor! However after an hour or so we were soon up and running and off on our quest for some more monster GT’s! Unfortunately we didn’t see any real monsters; we did however manage fish up to around 40lb, which can’t be sniffed at! We also landed some huge Queenfish and Sweetlips, all on the fly from the side of the boat! In my opinion the best way to catch these fish!
After yesterday and there broken rod, John and Malcolm did see some big fish, including three absolute monsters, but seeing them was as far as it went! As all of three of these giants, either managed to shed the hooks, or part the line on the sharp coral bottom. It made it even worse as one of the fish they managed to bring to the boat on two separate occasions, but were never able to land it! They estimated this fish to be well over 80lb! They did however make up for this with a trio of smaller GT’s to around 35lb, not a bad consolation!
As we made our short steam back to camp we relaxed with a cold beer and looked back on what had been a fabulous two weeks fishing. Even if for some of it, the trip had been looking at what might have been, or that one that got away! But as well all know, that’s fishing, and that’s the reason why we try time and time again to catch that fish of a lifetime!
When I return to the uk in a few days time (well after nearly 3 days travelling!) i will write up a full report and upload some pictures, to share this fishing paradise with you!
Tight lines Peter Collingsworth
