Signing Off The First Week In India With A Cracking Mahseer Of 68lb...
Well first of all, sorry for the lack of recent updates, we’ve had a problem with mobile phone coverage so I have been limited as to when I can send in my reports.
Now I have been told there has been a lot of negative talk in the press, surrounding the country of India and the fishing camp/restrictions. Now a lot of this has been generated by certain people who seem to have hidden agendas. I can reassure all of our customers that while I am managing the camp for Angling Direct Holidays there is no risk of these 48 hour fishing bans, that some have been talking of, and that the fishing has been as good as ever.
Anyway… more about the last few days fishing! As we come to the end of the first week, I must say it has been a cracking opening week on the Cauvery, the fish total now is nearing the 200 mark, with fish of all sizes up to around 50lb. However last night we broke the 50lb mark, and John Wolfe managed to hook and land the the biggest fish of the trip so far, fishing camp pool. John hooked the fish around tea time, picking up his hard Ragi bait, the fish powered off downstream, the battle commenced. After a nervous 15 minutes, with the fish doing its best to shred his line on the many boulders and sharp rocks that litter the river bed, the fight was over and a cracking Mahseer of 67lb was beached. A cheer went up amongst all who were fishing and there were handshakes all around, the stunning creature was weighed, photographed and then slipped back in to the mighty water of the Cauvery. As we sat down for tea and contemplated the first weeks fishing, I think everyone came to the same conclusion… what a week! John still grinning from ear to ear, but then who wouldn’t be…
Another talking point that came up was the wonderful array of wildlife that had been on show, the group saw Elephants playing around on the waters edge near one of our fishing spots, Eagles, small monkeys and even the resident camp panther made an appearance!
As we start the second week fingers crossed we’re in for another good one! Will try and get some more pictures sent across soon!
All the best DP
