She thought she was going to be bored
Steve took his wife fishing for the first time ever to the River Ebro in Spain, just read the account of their trip it was so funny as in Steve’s own words. “She thought she was going to be bored and had taken books and magazines to pass the time – In fact she never got to read a page as she was to busy fishing!!!!
It was a normal Monday morning when two familiar faces (Although very brown) walked in to or Norwich offices. It was Steve and Jackie Hoyes who had just returned from their fishing trip booked with us in Spain.
It was back in April 2009 when we first met them both, casually walking in to see us to enquiry about fishing in Spain for Catfish. I quickly learned that Jackie was a non-angler and just wanted to go along and keep Steve company as this was his dream. At first, I was a little nervous, as I knew that Steve would love the holiday but would Jackie be bored as Caspe is not the most non-angler friendly destination, combined with a 95% male trip, what would she make of it.
After explaining in detail all the ins and outs, they still decided that this trip would be fine for the both of them.
Below are their results
Day 1 – 7/9/09:
Jackie the (Non Angler) get off to a great start by ending the day with two catfish 30lb and 129lb. Steve has a respectable first day with a 92lb catfish and a 10lb carp.
Day 2 – 8/9/09:
Talk about beginner’s luck, Jackie who was going to be reading books was now well and truly hooked after finishing the day with two catfish the biggest weighing 122lb. Steve managed 3 nice fish with the biggest going 70lb, but still nothing over the magical 100lb. (See the dangers in taking beginners fishing)
Day 3 – 9/9/09:
Steve cracks the 100lb barrier with a nice 114lb fish plus a 58lb, 74lb catfish along with a 34lb Carp. Jackie who by know was attracting attention from all the other anglers in the party, breezed in 3 Catfish to 77lb plus a cracking 30lb carp
Day 4 – 10/9/09:
What a day and the day Jackie was christened by all the male anglers who by know were engaging Jackie in a lot of banter. There was talk about female hormones and pheromones in the water, that female anglers catch more fish because of smell etc etc. In fact Jackie services where now in great demand as all the anglers wanted her to throw in all their pellets as she had the golden touch………Why was she in such demand? Well on day 4 Jackie managed 5 catfish to 60lb lovely common carp of 46lb and baiting up for Steve who ended the day with 6 Catfish topped by a stunning 140lb specimen.
Day 5 – 11/9/09:
Would the golden touch hold out? Simple answer is yes and not just for Steve and Jackie. Whomever Jackie put out the bait for the magic touch worked, therefore she gained the title the bait bitch. So how did Steve and Jackie finish their day? Steve had 10 catfish to 81lb and Jackie 9 catfish to 52lb (Due to her baiting services being in much demand)
Day 6 – 12/9/09:
Last day of a weeks fishing and by now everyone is getting tiered of the long days, hot sun and punishing fish, would be nice to have a easy day….Wrong. The fishing just like the weather got even hotter.
Jackie – 39lb, 31lb, 29lb, 74lb, 85lb, 35lb, 54lb, 33lb, 99lb, 47lb, 41lb Catfish
Steve - 122lb, 57lb, 100lb, 57lb, 48lb, 82lb, 48lb, 80lb, 111lb, 52lb, 25lb, 39lb Catfish
Now that is what you call a days fishing and a great way to finish of your holidays.
Just look at the comments from Steve and jackie below to finish things off.
As you can see, we had a brilliant time. The guide told us he had never fished this swim before which was clear as that first day we only had a few fish. However, the constant ground baiting reaped huge rewards.
Jackie, who had never fished before, was the first one to catch a catfish over 100lbs and caught the biggest carp, 46lbs, in our group! She had thought she was going to be bored and had brought books and magazines to pass the time – In fact she never got to read a page as to busy fishing!!!!
The accommodation was basic but soon became home as we got used to it (remember to take towels with you).
At the end of each day we would discuss the days fishing with other anglers in the bar and made a few friends – the food was good too!
We never had time to shop as too shattered from the fun of the day as you were out by 8 a.m. and did not usually return until about 7 p.m.!
We did think afterwards it would have been good to attach a weeks relaxing holiday at the end of this trip!
Thanks for such a great trip and please rebook us both in for next year.
Kind regards Steve and Jackie (the Bait Bitch) Hoyes
