Saltwater Fly Fishing Florida Keys

fishing overview
The ultimate challenge is catching a large Tarpon on the fly and with our guides, many of our clients have risen to this challenge with Tarpon well over 180lb.

Have you ever fancied one of the greatest challenges for a fly angler? The thrill and excitement of catching Tarpon over 100lb on the fly has to be experienced to be believed. Watch these fish flash at surface poppers as they skip the surface. Tarpon are truly one of the most magnificent fish that occupy the waters of the Florida Keys. (Fishing is by poling along shallow water flats in search of cruising or laid up fish, and casting small crabs, shrimp or bait pattern flies. This is truly the art of stalking and sight fishing.) You will be fishing depth ranges from 2 feet to 11 feet of water and it is not uncommon to see a shoal of Tarpon containing numbers of 50 to 100 fish. Just remember how to cast when a fish of well over 100lb is in front of you. Picture yourself standing on the casting platform of a twenty-foot skiff just ten minutes out from the dock, (your guide is poling you along shallow water flats in search of cruising or laid up fish.) This is truly the art of stalking and sight fishing. Gazing ahead in to a mirrored sea and sky that seem to meet together as one, it is not difficult to sense that special kind of tranquillity that only the Florida Keys can produce. You will be fishing depth ranges from 2 feet to 11 feet of water and it is not uncommon to see a shoal of Tarpon containing numbers of 50 to 100 fish. Other fishing methods available are; drifting live baits suspended beneath poly balls with the current in deep channels. This is a deadly method, which see’s explosive takes as the tarpon engulfs your mullet and the battle begins. At the other end of the scale, you will be able to free line swimmer crabs whilst drifting in the boat. This method starts with just a small ‘tap’ from the line on you fingertip, before you have to reel like crazy to set the hook. Just where the Keys begin to arch toward blazing sunsets, and the din of busier islands fades to nothing, stands the tropical paradise called Lower Coral Bay Resort. This friendly resort is perfect accommodation for your fishing. Every room has a covered porch or patio, with cable TV and laundry facilities. We have a fresh water heated pool, sandy beach for swimming and a saltwater tidal pool filled with native tropical fish and open to the bay for snorkelling.
