We are delighted to announce that we have secured an exclusive new fishing area, Flaskholen, for 2012. This offers our guests the EXCLUSSIVE opportunity to fly fish Winsnes new rotation on Flaskholen.

For 2012, Winsnes Fishing Lodge is delighted to announce that we have secured a new fishing area on Gaula known as Flaskholen. The new area offers superb fly fishing on 1.5km of double bank (3km total) and will be run on a very exclusive basis for a very limited number of rods (max 6). For the past several years, Flaskholen has been run by a Swedish group and its catch statistics have not been published in Norway. We can reveal, however, that the zone produced approx 200 salmon in 2011 and is one of the most prolific zones on the Gaula River. Just six guests will share this exclusive piece of double bank water.

For those that know the area, Flaskholen begins above the Winsnes home pool, Kroken, and extends on both banks to the pool above the new road bridge where the Fora river enters Gaula. It includes the infamous ‘bottle pool’ which produces at least as many fish as Kroken in a season and often produces more.

The area will be divided into four fishing zones with anglers fishing two per pool. There will be no spinning or worm fishing and anglers are guaranteed that there will be no one fishing on the far bank.

Statistics.

The Flaskholen beat produced approx 200 salmon in 2011 season.

System and Resting Period.

In June and July, the river will be rested and closed to all fishing between 12.00 midday and 7.00pm. This will give the river a valuable rest and ensure that guests can have a siesta after fishing through the night, eat dinner and fish a rested pool.

In August, the night time period will provide a break for all of the pools so the mandatory closed period will be moved from midnight until 8.00am, with the fishing sessions being 8-12, 12-4 and 6-darkness falls. Guests can, of course, take a break whenever they want outside these periods! Fishing will be from midnight on Monday until midnight Sunday (6 days). Landowners will be permitted to fish on Sunday but fishing pressure is expected to be light and there will be a mandatory rest period for landowners so that all of the pools are rested before guests commence fishing after midnight.

There will be three rotation slots, each filled by two guests. The house will keep the fourth rotation and may use it at its discretion. For the majority of the time, the beat will be fished by six rods. Larger groups may book but only two people may fish each pool at one time and Guiding.

The Flaskholen beat will have a resident guide whom will be on hand to provide advice and assistance to all of the guests fishing Flaskholen. Those who wish to hire a personal guide can do so via the lodge.
