Description
Skipjack Tuna have a
deep steel blue colour on top, with
the lower part of the sides, the throat
and the belly shining white. Each
side is barred behind the corselet
with 4 to 6 longitudinal blue or brown
stripes, the upper ones terminating
at their intersection with the lateral
line, the lower 3 or 4 fading out
as they near the caudal peduncle.
Habitat
Skipjack Tuna feed on small
fish and crustaceans. Among their
favored foods are round herring, Spanish
sardine, round scad, squid and fish
larvae. However, they will consume
whatever is found in their environment
at the time and eat almost 3 times
their body weight each year.
Feeding Habits
Skipjack Tuna are relentless
predators from the time they hatch.
Adults eat all types of fish, including
herrings, menhaden, hake, mackerels,anchovies,
as well as shrimp and squid.
Age and Growth

length of about 30 inches.
