Description
Longtail Tuna have a long
slender body the upper body is dark
blue and black. The lower body is
silvery white. Longtail Tuna finlets
are yellow with gray edges
Habitat
Longtail Tuna is an inshore
Tuna that rarely is caught in open
water. Long tail Tuna are normaly
found around bait fish and flotsam.
Feeding Habits
Longtail Tuna feed on small
fish and crustaceans. Among their
favored foods are round herring, Spanish
sardine, round scad, squid and fish
larvae. However, they will consume
whatever is found in their environment
at the time and eat almost 3 times
their body weight each year.
Age and Growth
Longtail tuna reach a maximum
length of 1.5 metres and up to 32kg
in weight. The majority of fish caught
by anglers weigh less than 15kg
