Fly Fishing in unbelievable scenery for true Wild Brown Trout.
On
this holiday you will not only get to experience
the great waters around Camp Gauto and Arjeplog
centre but also take helicopter and sea plane
flights to remote lakes, rivers and streams,
that are just teaming with fish. In this job
you get to see a lot of great places, but due
to time you do not usually revisit for personal
trips. But I can honestly say when I get the
time this is one of those special places I must
go back to. From your base camp at Camp Gauto
you will have trips to unspoiled rivers amongst
arctic tundra. You will spend nights in a Sami
tent camped at the bottom of a mountain range
surrounded by one of the best clear mountain
river streams you will ever see.
Fly
fishing for true wild Brown Trout in Camp Gauto's
privately owned waters, where you will find
streams and shallow water totally unspoilt.
With the midnight sun and so many fishing opportunities
you will want to fish 24hrs a day and probably
require a holiday at the end of it. Every season
true wild Brown Trout are caught over 3 kilo,
often on dry fly. You cannot get any purer than
that, just a fly fisherman's heaven. Lake Gauto
is a part of the Lais river system in Swedish
Lapland. Our site lies right on the top end
as three separate rapid pools empty the upper
reaches of the river Lais. Fishing these rapids,
pools and back eddies presents you with endless
opportunities for different fly methods. Larger
Trout and Arctic Char can be found in the lake,
you can even catch these fish on the lake's
edge only a short walk from your door. Alternatively
you can take out one of the many 10 -13 ft boats
and explore until you have more energy.
At
the end of Lake Gauto it empties into a 1.5km
stretch of rapids called the Mark-strmmen, which
has Grayling as well as Trout and Char' but
beware of approaching too close, these rapids
become fierce....... South of the river lies
a small system comprising of our three private
lakes, Loppsjon, Baversjon and Strandsjon. Here
you will find calm and seclusion, combined with
a first class trout lake.
What our customers have to say:
- "Exploring Artic Sweden in the helicopter and fishing wild mountain streams was just beyond my wildest dreams. The best Brown Trout fishing I have ever experienced anywhere." Martyn Holligsworth
- "Thank you all again for another unbelievable experience, but how are we going to top this one?. " Peter Pitcher.
- "Just a quick note to say thank you for such a great trip and taking such good care of us all, see you again next year. "Ralph Toucan .

Here
you stay in cozy Log cabins with two - six comfortable
bunk beds. All the cabins have self catering
facilities, however on our tours all meals are
provide. Cabins have running water, toilets
and shower. There is also an amenities building
with washing facilities, kitchen and an out
of this world sauna. The restaurant in the main
building is where your evening meals will be
provided. The main building also houses the
reception desk, where you can purchase those
small items of fishing tackle, sweets etc.
This beautiful area and abundance of species
makes this an ideal place for fly fishing. You
will need 5# to 7# equipment and in 9 out of
10 cases a floating line with various tippets.
Early on in the season when the water is cooler
and higher, when you may wish to fish the larger
waters, it is good to have a medium sinking
line as well. Your fly box should contain assorted
caddis and mayflies of various stages, colour's
and sizes. Black fly imitations and a number
of streamers should also be included. For early
season fishing on the lake for Charhave, a collection
of various midges will be required.

Trout Fishing
5-7 fly fishing equipment and a floating line. This will do in most situations,
A sinking line early in the season when the water condition are cooler, and the water level is higher.
Your Fly box should be filled with mayflies and caddis of different stages, size and colour's.
You should have breathable waders with comfortable wader shoes for brief walks.
There is the possibility to rent neoprene waders from the guide.
Pike Fishing
It is recommended you use a suitable 8# rod and reel
Floating line for surface flies'
Intermediate with clear tip for bait patterns
Di 3 sinking lines for getting flies' down deep also for windy days.
Flies' from 2" to 6" single hook synthetic flies' work best.
General Gear
Aside from the regular type of clothing and personal effects that you would bring on any holiday, we have included a list of often-overlooked.
• A light rain suit for the occasional shower
• Polarized sunglasses (2 pairs) Amber, yellow, green or grey (I highly recommend Action Optics Eye Ware. You won’t find better glasses!)
• Sunscreen and lip protection (15 or higher and waterproof)
• A good fishing hat that will both keep the sun off you as well as cut down on glare (dark billed)
• Camera with film
• Extra batteries
• Insect repellent
• Extra light clothing for fishing when the sun is out. Consideration should also be given to warmer clothing for cooler days (The weather in Sweden is simple. When the sun shines its warm when it’s overcast its cold because you are fishing rivers that are in valleys)
• Good walking shoes
• A travel alarm clock
• Band-aids
• Zip lock bags
