Description

Jungle perch are also known as rock fish, due to the color of their tail. Jungle perch are closely related to two other species, but can be distinguished using a number of features. They are olive-brown above and silvery below, with black spots covering their body There fins have a distinct reddish typical perch color. Jungle perch grow up to 10lbs when fully matured

Habitat

Jungle Perch habitat can be from fast small streams to large rivers and even lakes, these fish will tolerate any conditions as long as the water is healthy. Like any predatory fish they can be found near or behind structures as in rocks trees etc from which they can attack their prey.The more remote the location, the greater the chance of an encounter. They are fast learners, and any well fished location will soon show poor catch rates per effort.

Feeding Habit

Jungle perch have excellent eye sight, and will ambush small lures and flies with great enthusiasm. These fish mainly hunt and prey on small fish and invertebrates, they are very successful hunters, They do prefer to hunt at low light so early morning or last thing at night are good time.

Age and Growth

Jungles are believed to live for up to 10 years these fish growth to their mid size quickly mainly on a diet of fish fry and small crustrations. Once they start on larger prey the continue to grow but as energy is also spent in breeding their growth rate slows down. Jungle are successful breeders and a good healthy population can so establish its self.

Tackle and Methods

Light bait caster or spin outfit loaded with two kilo line and small lures are ideal for jungles. Jungle perch have excellent eye sight, and will ambush small lures and flies like there's no tomorrow. Often regarded by light tackle sport fishing enthusiasts as one of the hardest fresh water species to find / catch, this most sought after fish.
