A natural habitat of order, beauty, luxury, peace and sensual indulgence.
Kenya is a great place for a tropical "Divorce Free" holiday, combining big-game fishing and big game watching on one of our fantastic safaris. The climate is fabulous, the people friendly and accommodating and the country itself is diverse and beautiful. As the name suggests, this becomes the true experience of Kenya with all she has to offer in terms of big-game. Come and experience the luxury accommodation and facilities at the world famous Hemingway's resort, before exploring the plains of Kenya. Be amazed at the simple luxury of your camp, in the middle of nowhere.
There is great variety of fishing, and plenty of other interesting things to do on non-fishing days. The pace of life is very relaxed. The coral gardens, just 2 km from the hotel, are spectacular and there is a wonderful tidal creek, just up the coast at Mida, a great place for bird watching, fishing, beach barbeques and sunset cruises. Big-game fishing is just for the macho men? Don't you believe it! If you've never fished before, are not-so-young, or of the fairer sex, "hakuna matata" - no problem. Our experienced crews are well versed at assisting anglers of all abilities.
Regardless of whether you are an angler, or non angler, no visit to Kenya is complete without a safari. A cramped mini-bus stuffed to the gills with fare-paying passengers, tearing from pillar to post is not our idea of a safari. We offer personal safaris, travelling in the comfort of a long wheeled base Land Rover. We stop when you want to stop and move on, when you want to. If you are interested in bird-life, then our guide will pay extra attention to fulfil your desires. Kenyans love their country and love to show it to you and what's more, nestled amongst the trees, overlooking a watering hole in the vast shrub land of Tsavo East lays our private camp. If your idea of a holiday is catching giant game fish, watching and photographing nature's unique wildlife in a natural habitat of beauty, luxury, peace and sensual indulgence, then this is for you.

| Hemingway's
Resort. Watamu |
       H/B |
Hemingway's
is on Turtle Bay, a five mile stretch of pristine sandy
beach with just 4 hotels, in contrast to the major tourist
regions of Mombasa and Diani Beach where dozens of hotels
line the coast. Turtle Bay was recently voted one of
the top 6 beaches in the world. Hemingway's is Watamu's
only 5 star hotel, and boasts Africa's biggest and best
game-fishing centre, Some of us just want to fish every
day all day of our holiday but partners may not want
to fish at all!. So Hemingway's gives you the ideal
solution for angler and non anglers alike as Hemingway's
has more than enough non-fishing activities to keep
everyone happy. At its simplest level, try a relaxed
day in the hotel, having a late breakfast on the terrace,
the occasional dip in the pool, and a lunchtime seafood
grill. As the sun starts to drop, its afternoon tea
and cakes whilst you watch the fishing boats come in,
and hear the tales of the big-ones that got away. For
the angler and non angler the fishy banter continues
into the bar and into the evening, lubricated by the
tasty locally brewed Tusker beer. Pre-prandial drinks
on the terrace, and a 5-course dinner under the stars
(weather/season Permitting) completes a perfect lazy
day. For the more active the coral reef begins within
5 yards of the shoreline directly in front of the hotel,
with free glass-bottomed boat trips to the ‘coral-gardens’
'for goggling (marine park fee payable). For the more
adventurous, scuba diving is excellent, with several
dive schools locally. Turtle bay boasts a mile stretch
of golden sands, leading to a large tidal creek at Mida.
This consists of mangrove and tidal lagoons, the home
of birds such as Ospreys, African Fish Eagles, Ibis,
and Flamingos.
All Hemingways rooms and suites are extremely comfortable,
have ocean views, are within yards of the beach and benefit
from 24 hour room service. All have bathrooms with showers
en-suite. There is air-conditioning and fans throughout
and rooms also have mosquito nets, personal safes and
room fridges. There are four main room types on offer:
Standard Rooms, In the original wing of the hotel, these
friendly rooms are as close to the beach as it is possible
to be without being built on the sand, they are shaded
by palm trees and offer a choice of twin or double beds.
Superior Rooms, again, there are double and twin beds
to choose from in the more spacious rooms of the new Hemingways
wing. Deluxe Rooms, These very spacious rooms are on the
ground floor of the new wing, offering the easiest of
access to the hotel gardens and beach, they have a bath
as well as a shower, three single beds and a terrace with
table and chairs. Junior Suites are available on all three
floors. They have super king-sized beds, large baths,
as well as showers and a lounge area.
We
offer a wide range of international styles, ranging
from sophisticated recipes with delicate sauces, to
simple cooking of the finest ingredients. We have our
own farms at Lake Naivasha, with fresh vegetables and
flowers flown in on a daily basis, while our own fishing
boats land fish every afternoon. Over the centuries
the influences of the trading routes have brought a
medley of cooking styles to Africa. Couple these with
the best seafood, mangrove crabs, lobster, and fish
of all types, and our chefs really have the opportunity
to excel. Our 'table d’hote' menus are a mixture
of international and local favourite, with daily vegetarian
options. We are always happy to offer second portions
and to cater for the large appetite or for specific
dietary needs. There is a buffet on Wednesday, Saturday
and Sunday lunch including Mongolian, Italian and Indian
specialties. Live cooking is a major feature including
not only main dishes but also our pasta and salad stations.
In our Mongolian buffet we offer a wide selection of
fresh meats, fish, seafood, vegetables, herbs, seasonings,
spices and sauces which you assemble in a bowl. Our
chefs then stir-fry your chosen ingredients on the large
cast iron ’Kadai’ (similar to a flat wok).
- the freshest and the best food that Kenya has to offer,
cooked in front of you, just the way you like it. Delicious!
During
the calmer months (December to March) dinner is served
on the terrace, with the sounds of the sea, the light
of the moon and the stars, and the rustle of the trade
winds in the palms for company. And should you come
fishing with us, our chefs will prepare your prize exactly
as you would like it. You might fancy Japanese style
sashimi, finely sliced with soya sauce and wasabi, or
maybe blackened Cajun style fillets, or just simply
steamed! Which ever way, you will never eat fish fresher
than this.'
What else is there to do between those
lazy days by the pool' or long days at sea?
For
all our safaris we believe in doing everything properly.
A cramped mini-bus stuffed to the gills with fare-paying
passengers, tearing from pillar to post is not our idea
of a safari. We offer personal safaris, traveling in
the comfort of a long wheel base Land Rover. We stop
when you want to stop, and move on when you do. If you
are interested in bird-life, then our guide will pay
extra attention to fulfill your desires. Kenyans love
their country, and love to show it to you.
The
combined areas of Tsavo East and West National Parks
covering some 4% of Kenya’s total land area (the
size of Wales) makes Tsavo one of the world’s
largest game sanctuaries. Situated halfway between Nairobi
and Mombasa, the Park is a haven for a diverse cross-section
of wildlife including the ‘Big Five’. Tsavo
East lies to the East of the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
This park is mainly a vast plain of bushland dotted
with the bizarre shapes of monstrous Baobab trees. The
Galana River flows through this park, bringing life
giving water to the resident animal population. Large
herds of ‘red’ elephants are a characteristic
sight – ‘red’ due to the coloured
dust they throw over themselves. Tsavo’s Game
is wild and long distances are covered in this park
but it is one of Kenya's great wilderness areas.
Nestled amongst the trees, overlooking a watering hole
in the vast shrub land of Tsavo East lies Satao Camp.
The Camp Manager Johan Du Toit is a veteran of bush
life in Africa and has put many years of dedication
into making Satao one of the most beautiful wildlife
camps in Kenya. If your idea of a holiday is watching
and photographing nature’s unique wildlife in
a natural habitat, then this is for you.
Each spacious tent has a private bathroom with running
water. The shower, however, is in the true African style,
whereby the camp staff bring hot water in the evening.
All the tents form a semi circle facing the water hole,
ideal for watching the game at night after exploring
the huge area around the camp during the day.
