Description Atlantic Halibut have a large mouth and forked tail, with an elongated flat body greenish-brown to dark brown on its upper-eyed side, with the blind side ranging from white to grey or mottled grey-white. The blind side is plain white or my be colored slightly pink. The jaw is equally formed on both sides. Habitat These fish make there home in the most inhospitable waters. It lives in cold, Atlantic waters that range from 200 to 3,000 feet deep. It prefers a smooth bottom. Feeding Habits These fish are very aggressive feeders, they will pursue prey in open waters. It will typically eat herring, ocean perch, other flounder and mackerel. They will also forage for crabs, lobsters and clams. If it fits in their mouth and they can catch it, its eaten. Age and Growth Matures at about 10 years at a length of about 100 cm. They are a winter spawner on the sea bed at depths of 300-1,000 metres, usually about 700 metres.
