Bonefish Fishing Los Roques

Los Roques Archipelago, which lies 80 miles off Venezuela’s mainland, along the Caribbean Sea, is considered among the best bonefishing places in the World. 

The Archipelago consists of forty-eight keys or islands; when overlooked from a plane, the look like a string of pearls against the azure blue of the Caribbean. Los Roques has been appointed as a National Park, tus no new building can be constructed on the islands; resides that, long-line fishermen have been forbidden and others kinds of fishing have been restricted. As a result, the amount of fish living there has increased steadily, while other types of game fish have emerged into these protected waters, like big Tarpon in its 80lb. And even 100lb., all of which can be sight – cast to by wading or from the boat. Big Permit and enormous snook in 20lb class have also been hooked and released. 

No matter how one fish for bonefish, perhaps the most challenging way is to wade the flats, spot tailing fish, creeping slowly within casting distance and then make a presentation, if you have not frightened the fish they will pick up your fly, and within seconds, the angler is hooked to a miniature sized express train. Convectional tackle anglers may choose to fish within the boat at deeper areas, where huge schools of feeding Bonefish can be found. In those cases, 30 or more fish can be expected in a short period of time. Regardless of their size, Bonefish can strip more line, faster than any other fish of comparable size.

 We have three 28ft, fiberglass boats fully available for our clients, with state-of-the-art equipment that includes 75HP Yamaha engines, VHF radios (in constant communications with the Main Island), every emergency device for insuring a safe trip, as well as tee-tops to provide some welcome shade.

Our clients visiting Los Roques will stay at Posada Arrecife, a tastefully furnished lodge. Many amenities await you at Arrecife since every room is equipped with air conditioning, satellite TV and a phone. Meals will turn into a most enjoyable experience as Arrecife offers a superb international cuisine served with european grace, as well as open bar (domestic rum, beer and a selection of red and white wines for dinner time).

For ensuring your comfort, Arrecife has its own back-up electric generator that will support both air-conditioning and Arrecife's industrial ice maker in the event of an energy failure. At Arrecife you can count on outstanding, top-quality service provided by Maurizio, his wife Barbara, as well as his warm staff, willing to meet any need or desire you may have. We have three 28ft. fiberglass boats fully available for our clients, with state-of-the-art equipment that includes 75 HP Yamaha engine, VHF radios (in constant communication with the main island), every emergency device for ensuring a safe sail, as well as tee-tops. Now to give more comfort to our clients and safety for the equipment when the sea is rough, we have adapted a very comfortable cushion seat as well as rod holders. Every boat has a captain and a guide, so anglers will be left on the flats and the captain will pick them up at the end of the flats, so you will not have to walk back to the boat and lose time.

When you are ready to book your holiday, our consultants will take down all particulars and take a deposit payment, please make sure that before making any booking that you have read our terms and conditions. At the time of the booking we will ask you to correctly spell the first and last name of each traveling member, as some flights will need to be ticketed at the time of booking and due to airline regulations no name changes can be made, once a ticket has been issued. On receipt of the deposit we will send the lead booker a “Booking Form” and a deposit receipt invoice which becomes the legal contract between Angling Direct Holidays and your party.

Bone Fishing:

Bonefish: 9 foot rod for 7 - 9wt lines. Saltwater reels with fly line plus 150 - 200 yards of backing 20lb test. WF-Floating lines for use in tropical climates. Knotless tapered leaders 6-9 feet long 8 -12 lbs in strength.
Permit: 9 foot fly rods for 9-10 wt lines. Saltwater fly reel with fly line plus 200-300 yards of 20lb backing. WF-Floating lines for use in tropical climates. Knotless tapered leaders 6-9 feet long 12-16 lbs in strength.
Barracuda / Sharks: 9 foot fly rods for 12-16 wt lines. Saltwater fly reel with fly line plus 200-300 yards of 20lb backing. WF-Floating lines for use in tropical climates. Knotless tapered leaders 6-9 feet long 12-16 lbs in strength. with single strand or braided wire shock tippet.
Clothing: Light weight quick drying ultra violet proof non cotton long and short sleeved shirts. Shorts and long trousers, Alternatively trousers with zip off legs. All clothing should be in light natural colors. Peaked cap with protection flap for ears and neck. Polaroid sunglasses with amber and yellow lenses. 12 to 30# strength waterproof sun cream. Insect repellant.
Flies: You will lose flies for all variety of reasons. Break offs occur when a fish makes the initial run on to coral or mangroves .Depending on your fly selection and your hooking success we recommend you take at least 50 Bonefish flies of various colours and patterns for six days fishing. For Barracuda and Sharks one fish one fly it's as easy as that.
