Sorry for a late catch report, as you’ve probably come to expect, its another busy week on the Cauvery! The new group arrived on Sunday and the fishing kicked off straight away, with lots of fish up to the 20lb mark gracing the banks. The river has turned very cloudy and coloured thanks to some heavy rain which turned up early Tuesday morning. At the time I thought it could be some early Mosoon weather, but it looks like it was a depression passing through, with all this rain the river rose nearly four feet!
The fishing was quiet as the excess rain water washed through, however it soon picked up again, with captures of 26lb to Pete Reading, a brace of 20lb fish for Steve Derby and a cracking 55lb fish for John Aplin. John also hit the camp headlines very soon after that embracing in a fight which lasted over an hour, the beast lead him a right merry dance, and took him all over the river in the coracle. After finally getting the upper hand a 12ft Croc broke the surface, it had snaffled his Ragi bait and been hooked fair and square in the mouth! Now how to unhook such a monster…Well we didn’t have to worry about this as crocs normally make a mockery of our fishing tackle, and this one was no exception. After a massive boil on the surface the croc powered away snapping the line, hook and obliterating the rod! Before having a chance to admire John’s new multi joint rod we made a quick getaway, I don’t think we’ve ever paddled so fast, after all this swim on the Cauvery was not big enough for the both of us, and we has out stayed our welcome!
Anyway I just thought I would share that little light hearted story with you! I have also received a picture from Andrew Gage and his cracking 62lb fish which he caught with us, which I’d also like to share, hopefully you can see the picture below!
Anyway I better get on!
Tight lines DP
