Madeira
Madeira Island is one of Europe's oldest travel locations, but if you look at the size of Madeira, you can hardly imagine that it has much to offer!
There are many historical monuments, quaint squares and streets in the capital Funchal, enchanting gardens, picturesque villages, amazing landscapes, impressive volcanic caves, rugged coast lines, beautiful natural beaches and last but not least, the greatest Marlin fishing in Europe. In fact, there is so much to see and do that you soon realise that one visit to Madeira just isn’t enough! There is a wide range of opportunities to satisfy all of your leisure requirements. The Atlantic Ocean invites you to go sailing, fishing, whale & dolphin watching, water skiing, surfing, diving and of course swimming. Back on land, there are a vast amount of leisure activities available. As you approach Madeira by air or sea you cannot miss the mountainous terrain. There are many famous Levada walks suited to all ages and until you have taken some of these trails, you cannot say you have truly experienced the wondrous and thrilling landscapes of the island. Because of its unique location in the mid-ocean, the island of Madeira is blessed with a very special event: the presence of visiting whales and dolphins which has only recently been recognized as another asset to this beautiful holiday destination. Just five kilometres off shore the ocean floor reaches a depth of more than 3,000 metres. Madeira’s waters close to the coast rapidly drop very deep and on most days these ocean going creatures are swimming right on your door step. It is also these waters that each year draw each year migratory Giant Blue Marlin and anglers from all over the world in their pursuit, for it is here where you stand every chance of hooking up with a big Blue Marlin over a 1,000lb. Another unknown little fact is that the Wahoo fishing which is towards the end of each year is also amazing, providing each day screaming runs from these cheaters of the sea.
