Lures Lead The Way In India! Read Dave Plummers Recent Blog!
Good morning all! Another glorious morning here on the banks of the Cauvery river, the suns out, temperatures are rising and the fish are biting! It’s a hard job but someone’s got to do it! I’m sure it’s a little warmer here than it currently is back home, as I hear there’s been a bit of snow about? I tell you, you should all come and fish out here in the cold dark months of January and February!
Anyway, on to the fishing… the last report I sent over was last Thursday and as you’d expect there’s a fair bit to report since then! Thursday evening into the early hours of Friday evening the river dropped a little, but It didn’t seem to put the fish off too much as Colin was still amongst the fish on his lures, with one fish which escaped capture opening one of his stinger trebles! It must have been some fish to do such a thing! Bill Rolfe landed the best fish of the day, a nice one around 26lb this also signaled 250 fish for the week.
Saturday into Sunday, the river rose nearly two feet, It’s up and down like a yo-yo at the moment, but as I said it doesn’t seem to effect the fishing too much. Mark Swaby landed one of 29.5lb, with Andy gage and Ian Whyte going a few ounces better by landing fish over the 30lb mark with one of 35lb and one of 32lb. Everyone else has been catching well with lots and lots of small fish to 15lb, these prove excellent sport on light tackle and offer some great entertainment whilst waiting for the bigun’s.
Into Monday, the extra two foot of water from the previous day started to subside and the temperatures increased. Colin landed the best fish of the day, a cracker of 40lb 12oz, on a lure and Ray Froud took fish to just over 20lb on balls of Raghi. A couple of real nice fish were lost too, we didn’t get a glimpse of either of them, which is usually a sign of a real biggie. In both cases they powered off, hugged the bottom and with the help of the rocks made light work of our 40lb Berkley Big Game mono!
Moving onto yesterday! It was Colin Belton again who lead the way, once again landing the biggest fish of the day, and once again on a lure. The beauty weighed in at 41lb and was followed a few hours later by another cracker of 39lb, this time on a livebait. Like the previous days there has been plenty of fish to 20lb caught, and looking through we have landed over 600 fish In the last two weeks!
Anyway I better get going for today, we have more fish to catch! One thing I will just mention before I go is, if your coming out to fish this year or next then try and bring a few lures with you. As you will have read Colin is catching some real nice fish on the lures, so stick a few in your tackle bag, the one’s you want are the Rapala Shad Raps in the Roach or Silver patterns.
Cheers, Tight Lines D.P

Some great fish

Great report as ever!! It might also be worth noting that I believe Colin upgrades the trebles/split rings on his lures and if fish are opening them, it would probably be prudent for others to do the same. X3 Owners are some of the best IMO.
yes change hooks split rings
