To fish at Kau Tapen is to take part in history.
This lodge, which literally translates into “House of Fishing”, was the first on the Rio Grande and now sets the high standard of elegance by which all other lodges are measured. The fishing at Kau Tapen has been described as the finest fly fishing for sea trout in the world. It has access to 16 km of the Rio Grande, and the sea-run brown trout average 12 lbs in size and can be as much as 30+ lbs. The lodge has access for fly fishing on both banks of the Rio Grande, and the river offers easy wading to the fly fishermen on fine gravel. The fishing schedule contains approximately 9 hours of fishing. Lunch is taken at the lodge and is followed during the early season by a siesta. The afternoon fishing session starts later during the months of December and January to capitalise on the magical dusk fishing hours.
Guides are first class, professional, international and Argentine guides; all of them are able to provide casting lessons with single and double handed rods (spey casting). The guides have extensive knowledge of the river and know each pocket / glide therefore expertly directing you to success while honing your fishing skills. All guides are equipped with nets to assist you in weighing and releasing fish without damaging them as Kau Tapen Lodge is a strictly catch and release fishery.
Kau Tapen is located within minutes of the best pools on the central portion of the Rio Grande. This attractive timber lodge boasts rustic elegance, with a well-appointed living room, bar, sauna, steam and massage room with sofas and nine comfortable bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. The dining schedule revolves around the most productive fishing hours and fine meals are served exemplifying the hospitality of your gracious Argentine hosts.
