Kau Tapen Fishing Report : Feb 20 - 26 of 2010
We had the pleasure to receive again a full group of old Friends, people that have been coming to this river for many years. It was certainly a fun and easy going week and if we add the fact that they had the best week of the season so far, we can say that all Kau-Tapen staff had a great time sharing the week with these fishermen. The river itself welcomed them with good overall conditions. We feel very proud to hear from this group that Kau-Tapen lodge continues to provide the ultimate experience on the Rio Grande. Farewell to our friends and we are looking forward to seeing them all next season.
Fish:
175 fish were landed, with 91.3% of them silver fresh fish. The average weight was 7.6 pounds. We had 19 fish over 15 pounds and 5 over 20. The biggest was a fresh 21 pounder caught by Mr. Alan Phillips.
Weather:
Wind: Moderate wind throughout the week.
Air Temp: Spanned from 4ºc to 17ºc
River Condition:
Level: The water level continues to be ideal for most of the pools.
Clarity: The Rio Grande and Menendez were crystal clear throughout the week.
Water temp: Between 6ºc and 13ºc
Tackle/Techniques:
Rods/Lines: The most common choice were double handed rods, but to fish Menendez we strongly recommend single handed rod. Most of the fish were taken on sink-tip lines, Intermediate and slow sinking tips.
Flies: Sun-Ray Shadow, Collie Dog, Rubber legged nymph, green machine, wonder bug and for the last hour, of course, the big black leech.
