Jurassic Lake is nothing short of a biological anomaly and must be the most prolific trophy Rainbow Trout fishery on the planet.

When you arrive at one of the wildest places in Patagonia, "Jurassic Lake", you will look out over a huge expanse of water, 20 km by 20 km at about 3,000 above sea level, that looks more like with its wind-chopped blue water channels, the Mediterranean Sea than just “a lake”. Nevertheless, why travel to such a place? The answer is a simple one, the quality and size of these magnificent wild Rainbows Trout is unbelievable, where else on earth would you expect catches of 50 fish per angler per day? With an average weight last season of around 12lb with the biggest fish landed being a 120cm long powerful fish. This is the most insane, remote and beautiful fishing destination you could dream of fishing.

As the tour name suggests Jurassic Lake is mainly run as, add on programmes to either a weeks fishing for Sea Trout at Las Buitreras, (See suggested itineraries for examples). These add on programmes will involve the very aptly named “Drive from Hell” into Jurassic Lake which takes roughly 12 hours from Rio Gallegos or 8 hours to Calafate. The last four hours of the drive into the lake are very rugged 4X4 travel with the last 20KM of the trip taking approximately three hours. Therefore anglers who are not a custom to rough travel or prone to motion sickness with extremely bad backs may be better off passing on Jurassic Lake! However, for those who are prepared for the pain the rewards are astonishing.

The best of the fishing is concentrated around the bay alongside the main tributary stream and in the stream itself, which are all very close to our camp. The fish are very often acrobatic, providing fantastic surging runs and jumps which are simply unstoppable, therefore rods with significant backbone and reels that contain a genuine hundred yards of backing are required to tame these leviathans. So travelling half way around the world to fish for Sea Trout makes this the obvious choice to extend your stay and reap the real benefits of both true wild Sea trout fishing and Monitor Rainbow Trout as well.
