'If Carlsberg made fishing resorts, it would be Gillhams' - Darren 'Breg' Bremner

blog story: 'If Carlsberg made fishing resorts, it would be Gillhams' - Darren 'Breg' Bremner
Darren 'Breg' Bremner, a regular with Angling Direct Holidays has just recently returned back from a weeks fishing in Thailand, visiting and fishing both Bung Sam Lan and Gillhams resort he sent us a cracking little report... Take it away Darren!

Just thought I would drop you a line to let you know how we got on in Thailand the last couple of weeks, sorry it's taken so long to get this off to you but I did send the report last week and it got sent back as undeliverable due tht file size. Here it goes anyway. After a couple of days in Bangkok we were met in the morning and taken up to Bung Sam Lan for a hectic days fishing for the mighty Mekong Catfish. After landing 15 each to about 70lbs and loosing at least the same again we were glad of a few beers that night when we got back.

The 5 days fishing at Gillhams Resorts were superb. The accommodation was first class and the food consistently good over both the Thai and English menus. The fishing was hard over the 5 days due to days of rain and our inexperience with style of fishing but the guides were very helpful and pointed us in the right direction.

The whole time that I was at Gillhams the phrase that kept going through my head was 'If Carlsberg made fishing resorts, it would be Gillhams'. Mark ended up with 2 beautiful fish, a 55lb Siamese Carp and a 230lb Arapaima. I lost a nice Mekong but landed a small Snakehead, an Amazonian Red Tail Catfish of about 20lb and 2 Siamese Carp (40/36 lb). The Arapaima eluded me this time but I guess that just gives me a good reason to go back in the new year, I've already emailed Mel to see about availability as I can't wait to get back there.

Thanks for your help in organising the trip for us.

Speak to you later.
