I Love It When A Plan Comes Together! Read Pete's Xmas Island Blog!
I love it when a well organised plan comes together, and the last couple of days have been a prefect example of this! We have had great fun!
The weather and tides have been absolutely spot on, we have landed over a dozen Gt’s with fish ranging up around the 50lb mark; we have also lost two monsters! One which must have been 80lb plus, I would like to say 100lb, but it just makes me feel worse!
I cast at the fish, ever so slightly uptide, I stripped back probably twice, before it turned its head and absolutely nailed my fly, causing a huge bow wave as it careered away once realising it was hooked. I must have played the fish for a good ten minutes, or should I say it played me! Before all of a sudden it was off, the hooks seemed to just drop out, to say I was gutted would have been an understatement!
Amongst the GT’s, there has been plenty of bonefish to keep everyone busy, I suppose they get taken for granted a little bit, as fish in the 2-6lb bracket a quite a regular sight!
As I sit here writing this, some of the boys are still out fishing with the guides, but I just saw Kevin, who’s just returned from fishing, and he’s just given me another acount about a big fish he lost, he reckons this one could have even topped the 100lb mark!
Fingers crossed, if luck is on side, we can hopefully get out tomorrow and hook and land one of these monsters! Always trying for something bigger…
Regards P.C
