How A Fish Can Turn Your 2 Piece Rod Into A 6 Piece Rod Within Seconds!!! Read Pete's Xmas Island Diary!

Another two days in fly fishing paradise, and once again they haven’t let us down! Yesterday, after my hunch, to head back out to the same flat as the previous day, we were not disappointed, as me and Kevin enjoyed a cracking days sport, with 6 nice GT’s between us.

I think everyone caught a few and had an excellent days sport, as the fish really turned it on for us! Today as all of the days has been another cracker, we landed 8 GT’s on the fly with myself being top rod, managing to land 4, along with 6 nice sized bonefish. Everything just clicked for me today; I couldn’t put a foot wrong!

The real highlight of the day though was Jon hooking and playing a monstrous GT, he must have had the beast on for around 15 minutes before it smashed his 12# rod, turning it from a 2 piece rod, into a 6 piece rod in a split second! Still hooked the fish then proceeded to shred his line and leader on some broken ground before finally snapping the weakened tackle! This was a serious case of the fish playing the angler! And a perfect example of how hard and dirty these fish fight!

Well its our last days fishing tomorrow before we have to take the long journey back home, and I think we might head out just offshore on the boats and do some popper fishing. I will let you know how we get on!
