Giant Mekong Catfish Fishing Thailand

Fishing for some of the world's largest freshwater species in the most famous lake in Thailand.
Normally, you wouldn’t associate the land of giants to any Asian country. You typically associate that to Africa, with animals like the elephant and the rhinoceros. But you do not find giants in Asia on land, you find them in the water, in Thailand, part of the Southeast Asia peninsula. Bung Sam Lan, just outside Bangkok, is one of the most extraordinary fisheries in the world. It is a lake of about twenty acres and was converted seventeen years ago from a swamp. It is stocked with a huge variety of native Thai and imported fish: Giant Mekong Catfish from 15 kg to 100 kg, Striped Catfish from 5 kg to 15 kg, Chaophraya Giant Catfish from 2 kg to 30 kg, Giant Siamese Carp from 20 kg to 100 kg and Amazonian Arapaima from 110 kg to 200 kg.
Each day you will be fishing from one of our Thai Style huts along with your guide. We fish two anglers to one guide per hut. All fishing tackle and bait is provided, your guide will set up the tackle depending on what you wish to fish for. To catch the Mekong Giant you fish a simple method feeder loaded with a special recipe of bread, coconut milk and spices.
During the long days at Bung Sam Lan we have the full use of our own private huts for safe storage of all your equipment and relief from the hot sun. Facilities include a kettle for boiling water for a refreshing cup of tea; running water and 240 Volt electricity for that well needed fan.
