LA TORTUGA
A large double Decker floating hotel. While you are our guest in Los Jardines de la Reina, accommodation is on our live-aboard boat La Tortuga: - a large, 110 foot long, double-decker floating hotel with seven cabins for guests. The newly refurbished Tortuga (2008) is an unbelievably solid boat, made of steel and then anchored in a protected channel, so that it never moves about. The threat of getting seasick is non-existent. This boat doesn't move one inch.
In 2008 the Tortuga was refurbished again, a major rebuild with a total cost of 1.5 million USD. The Tortuga features a large air conditioned dining room downstairs with both a foredeck and afterdeck which makes this a very comfortable home away from home. Food on board combines the flair of the best Continental Italian cuisine, some of the best seafood cuisine and traditional Cuban favourites like rice and beans. Beverages available on board include bottled water, Mineral and Tonic water, various soft drinks, beer, rum and excellent wines. Fresh Water is guaranteed by desalinization (4.000Ltrs / day) and there are generators located on a small island close to the lodge which run twenty four hours providing electricity for plenty of 110 and 220 volt outlets. There are plenty of rod racks and facilities for cleaning tackle at the end of the day. Laundry is also available on a daily basis. For a trip to Cuba it is better to travel light and you can leave all your formal clothes at home. For those who can just not leave work alone or want to e-mail loved ones, there is a wireless internet connection available onboard all the time.
On board, guests will find Fly-Fishing shirts (long and short sleeves), hats and short fishing pants at an outlet price. We remind you that credit cards are not accepted and all your expenses will be charged in CUC (Cuban convertible Pesos that you can change at airport at your arrival or in any bank).
There are also 3 different mother ships to chose from as detailed below.
HALCON. F/B
This recently-restored 75-foot luxury yacht features 6 cabins, three bathrooms and showers with plenty of hot water to make things comfortable. Perfect for groups of eight anglers, the Halcon allows anglers to travel to and fish the more remote parts of the Jardines de la Reina, and explore flats where the fish have rarely seen anglers and are easier to catch. Best of all, anglers on the Halcon get in a lot more quality fishing time each day. You are minutes away from many of the very best flats so there is far less running time in the skiffs and more fishing time for everyone.
On the main deck is a large salon, which is fully air-conditioned with comfortable couches making it the perfect place to relax with cocktails after fishing and before dinner. The salon is equipped with a TV, DVD and a good sound system that allows people to either watch movies or for anglers to hook up their video cameras and have fun watching the exciting fishing videos shot by their friends earlier that day.
Meals are usually served on the afterdeck allowing you to enjoy your meal with a light evening cool breeze. The chef on the Halcon does a wonderful job, food is primarily seafood - fresh fish every day, lobster and conch. But for those that would like something different, chicken and pork are also available, along with salads and a variety of fruits that are served every day. For those who still have room the desserts like flan, and rum cake are delicious.
For Divers the Halcon is the perfect craft, having the ability to travel all around the island system, offering a huge variety of dive sites during the week. Availability and access to the very best dives in the Jardines de la Reina and the unlimited range of the Halcon is the key to its popularity as a dive boat. Your diving guides live aboard the Halcon along with the guests.
This boat is designed to take up to 8 anglers with 4 skiffs, your guides and crew all live aboard with you for the duration of your stay. This is the perfect way to see and fish large areas of Jardines de la Reina in comfort of your own private little world and oasis.
