Adrian, Ben, John and myself have just returned from what can only be described as a mind blowing trip to southern India in search of the famous mighty mahseer.

Hot (40 degrees plus) and dusty.....

Ben and John just pondering over the sheer beauty of the Cauvery, and perhaps where next to cast that monster ball of soft raggi........

A little white water to contend with, on most days.......

A location with a surprise under every stone, around every corner and on most casts, not for those with a nervous disposition........

"I've just returned from a week's fishing with Dave Plumber in India for the mahseer and I would like to tell you how impressed I was with everything about the holiday. First of all, Dave was absolutely brilliant. He made sure I knew exactly what I was doing (I've never fished for mahseer before) and I was happy with everything around the camp. 

He not only thoroughly knows how catch these fish, but more importantly than that, he knows how to simply and easily instruct someone else so they can go and catch them for themselves. The guides know what they're doing and will do as little or as much as you want them to do, from casting out the rod to baiting up, or simply just to help you land the fish and put it on a stringer. 

The accommodation was like nothing I've ever experienced before and the food was superb: real Indian food cooked by Indians; curry has never tasted so good. 

I came to India having never fished for mahseer before but came away with a large number of fish after only a few days fishing. As a result of the excellent fishing I experienced and the organisation of the camp, I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to have a very laid back week's fishing in a fantastic location, with a guide who knows exactly how to make sure all his guests have a brilliant time and at the same time, see a great variety of wildlife along the way. "

The holiday started with an interesting, if not somewhat hair-raising trip to camp via Bangalore, in a 'luxury', 'air conditioned' mini bus. All i will say is make sure you wear your sunglasses, as the dust that comes through the 'air ducts' can be a bit harsh on the eyes. The next two weeks were, in a word, wondrous. Apart from the numerous Mahseer, including 8 fish over 40lbs for the group, the whole experience is something that will live with me forever. The wildlife is spectacular with crocs and fish eagles being a daily sitting along with an occasional glimpse of wild boar, bison and elephant. One of our group clocked up over 40 species of bird. The guides were very good and helpful as were the rest of the camp staff. Big Dave, otherwise affectionately known as 'fat un' to his fellow South Yorkshire men, was always around with helpful tips and advice. My sincere thanks Dave for organising the birthday cake. All in all an adventure holiday, i would recommend to any travelling angler.

Now I can see why it had such an appeal to all those lords and gentleman many years ago. The whole trip is so surreal and will stay with me for a long time. I just hope I can get back soon.

Great experience like nothing we have ever done before, now home we can not stop thinking about the trip, we have gone mahseer crazy.
