What a great season in Florida this year. After all the bad press Florida received during the oil spill the previous year, clients were obviously concerned how this would effect the fishing.
It’s hard to explain to the clients that even though the spill was 900 miles away with south easterly wind blowing, that the keys were never in any danger.
Anway this year we had some great fishing again, with Tarpon to around 180lb, Permit, Bonefish and some fantastic shark fishing, with fish to over 400lbs on light tackle.
Loads of Trout, ladyfish, bluejacks, Spanish mackerel, snappers plus other species were a welcome diversion on light gear in the back country.
We also had some Goliath Grouper or Jewfish, with the biggest in excess of 400lb.
For the angler who wants a wide variety of species most of them could be over 100lb, like Tarpon or sharks, grouper or even big sting rays the keys offer such a vast array of fishing and methods.
Confidence is once again growing for Florida keys and bookings for 2012 are now well under way.
Panama was once again a fantastic location for our clients, on my latest trip two of our clients had the best ever yellow fin Tuna catch, in a single day with 15 fish to 260lbs.
Add Marlin, Cubara Snapper, Mullet Snapper, Mackerel Snapper, Wahoo, Barracuda’s and Rooster fish, with loads of other species, it makes it, in my opinion one of the best destinations around.
The lodge is superb the facilities improve each year, staff are friendly and service is first rate.
Anyway I look forward to seeing all again very soon.
Tight Lines D.P.
