Angling Direct Holidays regular Darren 'Breg' Bremner is currently out in Florida fishing on the famous Florida Keys with Dave Plumber. When Darren goes away with us he always sends us lots of pictures and reports, which is excellent, this is a quick story of his first two days....
Sunday Evening
I lost the first fish when it leaped up out of the water. How on earth does a 130lb fish leap 6 foot in the air!! Anyway I landed the second fish which Dave estimated at 140-150lb, not bad for my first Tarpon. I couldn't believe the power of that fish, I was literally speechless by the end of the fight which very unlike me. I did get another offer but lost that one too.
Monday Morning
What a morning I've had, after waking up at 5am like a kid at Christmas Dave had us away by 7 sharp on the hunt for mullet. After getting a few of them we set off to the same area we were in last night but after a good few drifts Dave decided to anchor up and put a dead bait out as well as the crab. We were only sat there about 10 minutes when the dead bait rod started going and the end result was a Nurse shark which Dave estimated at 200lb! We went back round, picked up the anchor and set put the rods again. The dead bait rod started going again after about another 10 minutes and we thought that it was likely another Nurse shark.....well only for the first minute or so because this time the fish started jumping and I was into another nice Tarpon of about 120lb.
This place is amazing, fingers crossed it keeps up!
Good Luck Darren! We'll look forward to the next report and pictures!
