Angling Direct Holidays regular Darren Bremner has just returned from his weeks fishing in Thailand at the Gillhams resort. As usual Darren has sent us some excellent pictures and a brief report of his trip... So take it away Darren!
Hi Peter,
I just wanted to drop you a quick note to thank you and your team for organising an excellent trip to Gillhams Fishing Resort in Krabi, Thailand. This was my third time there now and every time the fishing has just got better and better. Course fishing is not really my thing, apart from a bit of pike fishing, so the fishing at Gillhams has been a challenge for me to get to grips with but with the help of the guides I’ve learned a lot. As you will be able to see from some of the pictures I‘ve had the trip of a lifetime which I will definitely be going back to try and do it again.
In total I caught 38 fish of 10 species, 7 of which were new species to me.
12 Amazonian Red Tail Catfish to 40lb
5 Asian Red Tail Catfish to 40lb
2 Chineese Seerfish to 11lb, these fish are one of the most endangered fish on the planet and I felt very lucky to have caught 2.
1 Alligator Garfish of about 14lb
2 Tambaqui to 30lb
A Spotted Sorubim of 20lb
A Julian’s Golden Prize Carp about 12lb (one of my target species for the trip)
A couple of Tilapia
12 Siamese Carp, most were in the 25 to 40lb bracket but on my last day I did have 60 and 75 pounders in consecutive casts.
And finally, but by no means least I got my Arapaima. It was on the last day and I was beginning to think I wasn’t going to ever catch the fish which is one of the many reasons I keep going back to Gillhams, but I basically got my fish bait out at 7am and had not even got the line into the line clip when all hell broke loose and I was into my first Arapaima. The fish was put at 80lb so I was made up. This was followed later in the day by another cracker of 180lb.
Stuart, Sean, Becky, Lee and the rest of the team were all superb and made my stay an absolute pleasure. The food was excellent, the company superb, I’ll be back for more!!!!
Once again, everyone at Angling Direct Holidays would like to say a big thanks to Darren for his time in effort in sending us some great pictures and words.
Cheers, Tight Lines ADH
