Chile

top experiences
Chile's Lake District
Chile's beautiful Lake District is made up of national parks that offer staggeringly lovely views of ancient monkey-puzzle trees, pristine alpine lakes and perfectly shaped volcanoes.

Volcán Villarrica
One of the world's most active volcanoes, Volcán Villarrica near Pucón, is safer than it sounds - it is also one of the worlds most monitored, so you should have plenty of warning of any imminent eruption.

Antarctica
Voyage to the world's last undiscovered wilderness, Antarctica, from Chile's southernmost city, Punta Arenas. Valparaíso is one of the most atmospheric port cities in Latin America - a city with sinuous hills and a labyrinth of precipitous streets and colourful clapboard houses that inspired the poet Pablo Neruda.

Santiago
Any trip through Chile should start in the capital. A beautiful, modern city, Santiago has so much to offer the casual visitor. Start your visit at the Plaza de las Armas, the large square in the centre of town. Look at the Cathedral, with its vaulted ceilings and beautiful antique paintings. Then sit at an outdoor cafe on the plaza watching the people and pedestrians. Afterwards head to the downtown shopping district to pick up some deals on electronics or fashion, all of which can be found at very cheap prices. In the evening, a variety of restaurants serve up traditional Chilean food as well as many varieties of excellent Chilean wine. End the night in one of Santiago's trendy clubs, where you can hear DJs from around the world playing music as you sip on pisco, the famous Chilean liquor made from grapes.
things to do
White-water rafting
White-water rafting down any number of the country's spectacular rapids is popular - you'll find specialist operators offering trips down the Maipo near Santiago, the Trancura near Pucón, as well as the Bio-Bio river in Region VIII. The scenery around the Bio-Bio includes hot springs and waterfalls.

Nightlife in Santiago, Chile
Santiago de Chile is full of fun places to go out. Depending on your gusto there are a wide variety of clubs, discos, bars, theatres and much more. Prominent neighbourhoods for going out at night in Santiago include Bellavista, Brazil, Bellas Artes and others.

Hiking
Through Chile opens one up to the natural scenic wonders that lies closeted in this beautiful Latin American country. Chile offers unique hiking opportunities through unexplored terrains peppered with geysers, volcanoes, hidden springs and mountains. Indulge in hiking through the moonscapes and valleys, memories of which will prove to last for a lifetime.
