This hotel is ideal for anglers and no anglers look for a clean warm friendly family run hotel, Just 5 mins from the marina and all the shops plus endless restaurants. However we do have many other resort type of hotels to offer so should you wish for a larger type of hotel just ask.
This hotel is made up from 2 blocks of accommodation either side of the road, the newest is right next to the sea with the more traditional and original part of the hotel directly opposite over the road. Note: Guests are free to wander between each hotel and use services at each hotel.
Situated just 300 metres from Funchal’s city centre next to the harbour, the charming Quinta da Penha de França is an oasis of Tropical gardens with direct oceanfront access. However, unlike many of Madeira’s more famous hotels, it remained a family run business and retains a delightfully relaxing and informal ambience, offering tradition without any hint of stuffiness. The hotel complex comprises two distinct sections: the original part, sitting on a cliff, was built around an old manor house, surrounded by luxuriant, subtropical gardens, whilst a more recent addition, the Penha França Mar, is located right on the ocean shore with direct access to the sea via a swimming platform. A small footbridge and a lift connect the two hotels, and the guests have access to all the facilities offered.
Funchal's historic and cultural centre is just a pleasant 15 minutes walk away – a flat stroll along the port from the seaside annex Penha França Mar, or a steeper walk through the lovely Santa Catarina park from the original hotel complex. Botanical gardens, shopping centres, municipal theatre, museums, restaurants, bars and cafés plus many more interesting places to visit are close by.

For cooler days and cosy evenings, there are several intimate lounges in the old manor house, whilst the hotel's restaurant and its adjacent ‘Joe's Bar’ are some kind of a local institution, popular with Funchal's residents not only for the fine food, impressive wine list and attentive service, but also for their ‘old-world’, club-like atmosphere. The complex houses also a billiard bar with two professional tables. Each hotel has its own seawater swimming pool (the one in the original Quinta is heated).

The whole hotel complex comprises in total 109 guest rooms. The original Quinta da Penha de França offers superior garden view rooms which are prettily decorated in a country house style and equipped with a balcony providing a side sea view in addition to the picturesque outlook across the gardens. The rooms in the annex Penha França Mar are all looking out to the sea and are decorated in a more maritime style matching their location. All are equipped with a modern en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning (except the twin room with garden view), shower, mini-bar, private safe, telephone and cable TV.
