Bella Vista End of Season Report
When we arrived in January, the river was on a normal height and dropping and clearing every day. Just two days after that, it rose a foot and during the following 3 days we had already caught 29 fish only in a few hours and just in a few pools (we were scouting the river, wading most of the pools). We caught 35 fish with an average weight of 12.37 lbs and 3 of those fish were 20 pounders!! We also had a great start of the season when our first guests arrived. They caught 26 fish with an average weight of 10.44 pounds and we had two crackers: a 23 lbs and a 22.5lb
The first week of February was also very good. They caught 21 fish but we also had only a few guests and an average weight of 12.92 lbs for that week. The week after it was a bit slow because the river dropped quite a lot and most of the fish were not taking much, but fortunately that changed the last day when river started rising. The following week, the river was a bit a high but we still managed to catch fish. We caught the biggest fish of the season when the river started dropping: a massive 24 pounds hen fish that took a big Temple Dog in Abbott´s. The last week of the month was also very good. We had another great average (11.78 lbs.) and the biggest fish weighted 22 pounds!.
We started March with not many guests and with a dropping river. They caught a few fish and we had a lot of fun. Our average weight was 11.39 pounds and the biggest fish weighted 20 pounds. The second week of the month, we had a small rise and fishing improved a lot. We caught more fish and we had a nice average (11.23 pounds). Unfortunately, the week after we did not have guests at the lodge, so we did a big scouting up on Beat 4. We found a few great spots and we already named 3 new Pools!
The last week of the month (and last week of the season) was a perfect way to finish it. We caught a lot of fish with a great average: 12.03 pounds!! We caught a 23, 22 and a 20 lbs fish that week. We also fished a couple of days before we closed down, and we caught a bunch of fish (some fresh some dark) but we are 100% sure that we missed the big run again.
We ended with a total number of 224 SEA TROUT and an average weight for the whole season of 11.94 pounds! We caught many huge brown trout during the 3 months, some of them weighting 5 and 6 pounds and we had the biggest of the season that weighted 7 pounds!!.
Looking forward to see you all next season!!
