Panama Group Trip Update With Dave Plummer

09 September 10

The fishing on day two carried on in the vein as day one, with the fish again, playing ball. We landed loads of tuna to around 40lb with Roger providing the highlight of the day in the shape of a 250lb blue marlin.

Just to say thanks

Excellent
Mr. G Cross
Hi Peter,

Just reporting back after returning from 10 days at the Punta Colorada. We had a great time again (our third visit), even though the water temperature had dropped considerably and the water was on the green side. It was even cool and windy for a couple of days (a bit like Dover where we used to fish each month!) We ended up with plenty of Marlin and Dorado, Roosters and Tuna. George also caught a big Wahoo, about 60lb.

Haven’t snagged one of those in Mexico before. Great fun.

We got there eventually, a day late, as the plane coming in to Heathrow from Newark had to have a new engine fitted. Continental looked after us well, providing us with food vouchers and accommodation at the Sheraton Hotel at Houston Airport and a ticket to Cabo on the first flight next day.

The only problem was with the contact numbers you provided us with for the Punta Colorada and the Taxi Company. Both it appears are defunct and no longer used. I couldn’t contact anyone to tell them we wouldn’t be there ‘till the next day. Many thanks to Melanie who also tried for us. It would be useful to have up to date contact numbers and the numbers that should be rung from the UK, US and once in Mexico.

It all turned out ok as I do not book fishing for the first day just in case this happens. The Punta Colorada also credited us for the night we missed. Really impressive.

All the Staff at the Hotel are really helpful, especially Alex, the boat manager who made sure we got on the boats we wanted. We were very keen to get on the Mahi Mahi with Ramone being the captain. Eventually managed to book him for 3 days. Unfortunately on day two after catching 4 big Dorado in the first 20 minutes, the engine blew up, big bang, lots of smoke and the engine hatch blew off! Luckily for me I had only been sitting on it 2 minutes before! They soon transferred us to another boat. I will book him in advance for our next trip.

All in all we had a terrific trip once again. Many thanks to you and your team for organising it. We will be returning again in 2012 if all goes well and my son Alan will be coming with us then. Continental were very impressive and transfer your bags automatically in Houston which saves the bother of collecting them from the reclaim and putting them on again as you have to at Dallas with American. You can also use the one stop lane at immigration, if you haven’t got baggage, which saves an hour queuing.

I will be in touch next year to book for 2012.

Kind regards and tight lines.

Ideal holiday for pure anglers

Ideal holiday for pure anglers; all we did was sleep, eat and talk fishing 24 / 7. I can see us going back for several years.
