Bahamas

Christopher Columbus came looking for gold but the "treasure" he found was this paradise. Now divers, snorkelers and anglers land on these remote islands to take home nothing more than a one-of-a-kind experience.

The Bahamas are well established as one of the world's top holiday destinations being graced with beautiful beaches of pink sand and lapped by crystal clear waters. But sun, sand, and sea are merely the perimeters of these Islands, for in its core you’ll find people with a big heart, open arms, and a way of living life that is just simply, timeless. The Islands of the Bahamas form a 100,000-sq-mile archipelago that extends over 500 miles of the clearest water in the world. There are 700 islands including uninhabited cays and large rocks, making up the world's third longest barrier reef. This is also the birthplace of the Gulf Stream; a phenomenon that accounts for their astonishing variety and abundance of marine life. With over 50 world fishing records it's no wonder that the Bahamas are considered one of the premier sport fishing destinations in the world.

The two main methods of fishing practiced here are deep-sea and fly fishing. Deep-sea fishing takes place off the cay's, where the drop-off from the reef to the Atlantic is steep. The deep waters are trawled with large fishing tackle baited for Marlin, Sailfish, Tuna, Dorado or Mackerel. Hooking into one of these will test both tackle and your strength! Fly fishing for Bonefish and Permit along the many miles of stunning saltwater flats has lately become one of the most popular types of fishing. Stalking these elusive fish takes time and patience, and hooking and landing one on the flats is an adventure in itself! There is also great Tarpon fishing amongst the many channels feeding the saltwater flats, providing fly anglers with many chances of good size Tarpon on the fly.
