Martyn Page, of Angling Direct recently returned from a short break at our lodge in Canada Sturgeon fishing. Martyn who is a regular visitor to the lodge and good friends with the guides, enjoyed a cracking week landing 46 Sturgeon to 240lb with 12 fish over the 100lb mark.
The high light of the trip, well if it could be called a hightlight! Was hooking and unfortunately losing a huge Sturgeon, well over 600lb and over 10ft long. The fish was hooked in the middle of a channel, at one of the favoured big Sturgeon marks, stripping yards and yards of line on its first run, before going on to fight for a exhausting two and a half hours. As they started to bring the tiring fish to the beach, to unhook it and get some trophy shots, the Sturgeon gave one last kick with its tail and it was the gone! The hooks pulled and the prehistoric monster glided back to the depths. I don’t think gutted was the word…!
